This week I’m covering a series that I couldn’t keep reading after the first volume, because it wasn’t that great. It’s Oda Nobuna no Yabou/Oda Nobuna’s Ambition by Kasuga Mikage.

Plot Synopsis: Sagara Yoshiharu finds himself back in time during the Sengoku era. During his first day, he was about to be killed in a battlefield. He is saved by a man named Toyotomi Hideyoshi. The famous Daimyou, General and Politician who unified Japan and ended the Sengoku era, dies while saving Sagara Yoshiharu. With history completely changed, Sagara Yoshiharu tries to make things right again but it seems that history is taking a different course than the one he learned in his time. Oda Nobunaga, the famed Daimyo is now a brilliant but beautiful young girl named Oda Nobuna. Sagara Yoshiharu decides to replace Toyotomi Hideyoshi by taking his place and serve under the command of Oda Nobuna under the given name “Monkey”. Rewriting history as he goes along.

Plot: The plot is pretty interesting, but it falters in places and it cheapens it. I’m all for famous historical figures being reimagined as beautiful girls, but when half of them fall under obvious Tsundere tropes and don’t seem to deviate from it, it get’s rather boring.

Characters: Yoshiharu actually is a fairly interesting character, although he plays the idiot male lead in a harem romance comedy and it makes his character seem stupid. The rest of the cast is pretty much all beautiful girls, although there are a few other male characters they are few in number.

Art: The artwork was what got me interested in this series, and while it’s pretty good it doesn’t hold up the plot.

Overall: If you are desperate for a harem rom-com read this, otherwise keep on with your life.

For those who like: Harems, Rom-Coms, Gender-Benders, Historical Fiction.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above, or the Rom-Com taking center stage in terms of plot.
