This week for Light Novel Thursday I’m covering a series I thought was pretty decent, except that it ended terribly. It’s Silver Cross and Draculea by Totsuki Yuu.
Plot Synopsis: “Impossible… Why are you not following my orders!? Clearly I sucked your blood, why!?”
On the very first day of high school, the youth subscribing to the philosophy of “absolutely ordinary everyday life,” Kujou Hisui, encountered disaster head on: he was attacked by Rushella Dahm Draculea, the vampire who had lost her memory. Rushella was greatly intrigued to find her vampire powers ineffective against Hisui. Not only did she make Hisui’s home her own, she even enrolled in his school to stick to him.
Plot: The plot is fairly standard Romantic Comedy, mixed with some fairly decent action scenes that sadly are too spaced out to get over the bland rom-com. The series ends on a fairly unsatisfying note, although it could be because the novel wasn’t selling as well as the publisher wanted and they cut the series short.
Characters: Hisui is actually fairly interesting, at least his background is, but since he fills the role of idiot guy who gets beautiful girls to fall for him, I just don’t like his character all that much. Rushella is fairly interesting, except for her Tsundere tendencies which are tiresome. The rest of the cast is filled with plenty of other standard monsters from classic novels, like Frankensteins monster. Still not enough for me to forgive the series for ending on such a bad note though.
Art: The art for this series is amazing, which is what got me into this series in the first place. I know you aren’t supposed to judge a book by it’s cover, but hell the artwork is good.
Overall: If you can stomach a unsatisfying ending, or just love vampire stories, or even just romance comedies, you’ll love this series.
For those who like: Vampires, Monsters, Romance-Comedies, A bit of action, Great artwork.
Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above, an unsatisfying ending or characters that stick to tropes way too much.
