Bookish Wednesday: Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb

assassins_apprentice

This week for Bookish Wednesday I’m covering a novel I didn’t really like after I finished it. It’s Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb!

Plot Synopsis: Fitz is the bastard son of the noble Prince Chivalry, raised in the shadow of the royal court by his father’s gruff stableman.

Plot: The plot is pretty good, but Fitz being the sole PoV character is grating. I constantly was asking myself why does he put up with the crap he get’s dealt and why he doesn’t just deal with it instead of whining. I couldn’t even bother finishing the second book because I was so sick of it.

Characters: Fitz is a terrible main character, but pretty much everyone else makes up for him being such a poor lead. Molly and Burrich and the Lady Patience are probably my favorite characters. Verity is nice, but pretty much everyone else I want to throttle. It’s only Fitz who really bugs me to the point of completely giving up on continuing with the series.

Overall: If you can get over Fitz being a whiny brat, you might enjoy it more than I did.

For those who like: Low Fantasy, Political Intrigue, Medival Fiction, Good Plot and Cast of Characters.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above, or an incredibly whiny main character.
