Bookish Wednesday: The Aeronaut’s Windlass by Jim Butcher

This week for Bookish Wednesday I’m covering the first entry in a brand new series by Jim Butcher! It’s The Aeronaut’s Windlass, Book 01 of The Cinder Spires!

Plot Synopsis: Since time immemorial, the Spires have sheltered humanity, towering for miles over the mist-shrouded surface of the world. Within their halls, aristocratic houses have ruled for generations, developing scientific marvels, fostering trade alliances, and building fleets of airships to keep the peace.

Captain Grimm commands the merchant ship, Predator. Fiercely loyal to Spire Albion, he has taken their side in the cold war with Spire Aurora, disrupting the enemy’s shipping lines by attacking their cargo vessels.

Plot: So first things first, this is a Steampunk series and it’s amazingly well done. Jim Butcher is one of my favorite authors and he is nearly as good as Brandon Sanderson and his Dresden Files series is one of my favorite Urban Fantasy series. Regarding this actual book, the plot is excellent and takes all the lessons Butcher has learned from Dresden and Alera and makes this an instant hit series. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this get a TV series someday. The action is amazing.

Characters: The entire cast is great, with the villains being really villainous and the heroes being awesome. My favorite character is probably Rowl, but I’ll leave the reasons why unspoiled. Needless to say the humor from Dresden is pretty present in this series.

Overall: This is going to be one of those masterpiece series that I will definitely say is worth reading before you die. It is truly that good.

For those who like: Action, Steampunk, Fantasy, Great Cast of Characters, Excellent Plot.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above, but how can you hate that?
