This week for Anime Sunday I’m covering a series I was anxious about prior to the season. It’s my Saijaku Muhai no Bahamut Episode 01 Impressions!
Plot Synopsis: Lux, a former prince of an empire named Arcadia that was overthrown via a rebellion five years earlier, accidentally falls down into a female dormitory’s bathing area, and sees the kingdom’s new princess Lisesharte naked, incurring her wrath. Lisesharte then challenges Lux to a Drag-Ride duel. Drag-Rides are ancient armored mechanical weapons that have been excavated from ruins all around the world.
Plot: Where Rakudai was interesting and had real romance, Saijaku goes the route of every other Magical Academy series I’ve ever read or watched. Which is a pity, as the plot of the Light Novels the series is an adaptation of had real promise. But neither deliver, not to the level of Rakudai. I knew that this was the case going into watching the first episode, but having the first episode cover half of an entire volume of the Light Novel’s in terms of plot was discouraging. The studio behind Rakudai decided to speed up the pacing for some reason I can’t fathom. I’ll probably watch the second episode just to get the first volume’s worth of plot out of my head and stop watching after that.
Characters: Lux is an interesting main character, if he didn’t sound like a whiny brat he’d be even better. Lisesharte is the typical Tsundere female lead, which is disappointing. Are you seeing a pattern yet? The rest of the cast is decent, but nothing special either.
Art: The art is great though, which makes the rest of the show just even more disappointing.
Music: The music isn’t nearly as good as Rakudai, which again is disappointing.
Overall: Skip this unless you really love the Magical Academy Harem Romance genre of series.
For those who like: Magical Academy Harem Romance Series, Great Artwork.
Not for those who don’t like: Either of the above, or just disappointment made into an Anime.
