Bookish Wednesday: Touch the Dark by Karen Chance

This week for Bookish Wednesday I’m covering the beginning of a series that I’m struggling not to treat like Twilight. It’s Touch the Dark by Karen Chance!

Plot Synopsis: Cassandra Palmer can see the future and communicate with spirits—talents that make her attractive to the dead and the undead. The ghosts of the dead aren’t usually dangerous; they just like to talk…a lot. The undead are another matter. Like any sensible girl, Cassie tries to avoid vampires. But when the bloodsucking mafioso she escaped three years ago finds Cassie again with vengeance on his mind, she’s forced to turn to the vampire Senate for protection.

Plot: Did I mention Twilight already, good because I really dislike the entire premise of Cassie’s entire shtick. She runs from everything. Responsibility, Friends, Loved Ones, Common Sense, etc… So this entire book is her running from what could a really great thing for her, but she just won’t have it because she’s an irresponsible character. I can’t believe how stupid it all is, instead of using her talents to get her out of the entire freaking situation she runs into, she decides to keep running. Which is a real shame since this particular talent of hers could become an amazing story device, but instead she just keeps running.

Characters: I like Mircea, Raphael, and a few others, however Cassie just pisses me off. I don’t think I’ve met a character I’ve disliked so much since Bella.

Overall: Stay away from this, what could’ve been great was turned into utter crap by the authors choice to have the main character be so irresponsible.
