Sensate Saturday: Shuriken and Pleats by Matsuri Hino [Quick Review]

This week for Sensate Saturday I’ve got another Quick Review. It’s Shuriken and Pleats by Matsuri Hino!

Plot Synopsis: With the Meiji Restoration and the abolishment of the Samurai system, the once feared and respected ninja were forced underground, to continue their work in absolute secrecy. In modern times, the descendants of a certain ninja clan have continued their ancestors’ legacy by employing the ninja arts in their work as bodyguards for the rich and famous.

Plot: This first chapter is a prologue of sorts, and introduces us to Mikage Kirio. I won’t spoil anything, but I found the first chapter much more enticing than the first chapter of Hino’s earlier work Vampire Knight.

Characters: Like I said we get introduced to Mikage Kirio in this chapter, we also get to meet her charge, Rodd who seems to be a great guy. That’s really all we get to meet in this first chapter, but hopefully the cast expands a bit more soon.

Art: I didn’t particularly enjoy Hino’s previous work plot wise, but damn if it wasn’t pretty. This series is an even better improvement on that art style and it’s quite good.

Overall: I’m going to give this a tentative go ahead right now, hopefully the plot doesn’t fall apart like Vampire Knights did.
