Sensate Saturday: Savanna Game by Kuroi Ransuke [Quick Review]

This week for Sensate Saturday I’ve got another Quick Review! It’s Savanna Game by Kuroi Ransuke!

Plot Synopsis: The story follows a young man named Shibuya Kazuya  who receives an anonymous email message out of the blue one day: “Won’t you join the Savanna Game?” The message is an invitation to a state-sanctioned killing game — a deadly role-playing game designed to motivate the inhibited youth of modern Japan. Shibuya and his two friends Kotegawa and Kudou find themselves in bizarre battles that span the space-time continuum.

Plot: The series begins in medias res with Kazuya, Masato and Hitoshi in a car running away from a giant dragon. That told me that this story will be pretty interesting, as it takes real balls to start a story in medias res and most amateur authors don’t ever do so. The rest of the chapter confirmed my suspicion and I’m pretty hooked on the series, although I’ll probably have to postpone on reading the rest of the series till a future date.

Characters: We really only get introduced to Kazuya in this first chapter, although we get to see a bit from Masato and Hitoshi in the first few pages. Actually I’m not too impressed with Kazuya’s character after this first chapter, but I have a feeling he’ll grow on me.

Art: Pretty awesome, although not quite up to Shueisha levels, it isn’t far from reaching that standard.

Overall: Giving the go ahead on this series, from all the signs this first chapter gave me this should prove to be a very good series.

For those who like: Death Game Plots, Horror, Tragedy, Drama, Action, Romance?, Interesting Plot, Great Artwork.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
