Anime Sunday: Most Anticipated Fall 2019 Anime

key_art

This week for Anime Sunday I’m back with a look at the next season. It’s my Most Anticipated Fall 2019 Anime!

Assassin’s Pride: This is an adaptation of a Light Novel series that I have heard about in the community, but have not yet read myself. I’ll give it a whirl, but this could very well be a bust in terms of content. We’ll see, it might also be too much of a try-hard at a dark fantasy story, in which case I’ll not be interested at all if that happens.

Cautious Hero: This looks to be much more of a comedy series than anything else given it’s title, but given it’s billed as a an Adventure and Action series with no Comedy tag in sight I’m hoping it’ll be more like TenSura than KonoSuba. One is light hearted with it’s serious moments, while the other is just a satire of the Isekai genre.

Fate/Grand Order Babylonia: This is an adaptation of the seventh and penultimate Singularity of the first act of the mobile game. I loved playing through this Singularity myself and it’s incredible story line is going to be an absolute joy to watch. I’ve heard it’ll be a 2-cour series, so I’m looking forward to watching the entirety of this series. I just hope 2-cour will be enough to do the story justice, but I’m hoping it will. The only downside is that it won’t be animated by ufotable, but even still I’m looking forward to watching this.

High School Prodigies: This is another adaptation of a really long named Light Novel series, so we’ll see if it’s any good. Like with the first two it might be a bust, but I’m going to give it a shot. It might be an Isekai series, but considering that Arifureta is one of my most loved stories of all time and it is an Isekai I figure I’ll give it a shot.

Honorable Mentions:

Sword Art Online Alicization 2nd Cour: I’m not a particular fan of the novel series anymore, it was okay until I read much better series, but some people love the series still. Me I don’t particularly enjoy it all that much anymore.

That’s it for this week’s Anime Sunday!

Anime Sunday: Caligula Episode 01 Impressions

This week for Anime Sunday I’ve got a look at another of the Spring 2018 Anime series. It’s my Caligula Episode 01 Impressions!

Plot Synopsis: Shikishima is a psychology buff and between talking about the Johari Window and examining his friends’ behavior, he shows his knowledge of psychological jargon well. However, one thing he can’t explain is why, one day, people go crazy and start fighting this guy named Satake Shogo…

Plot: This series is really confusing. And the fact that it only got a little less so at the very end of the first episode isn’t a good thing. Something really strange is going in this series, and frankly all the psychology jargon and analysis is incredibly off putting. It’s not that I don’t understand the concepts talked about, but the fact that it seems to be the main focus of the first episode is really disappointing. I don’t mind if stuff is less action packed, but the constant self analysis by the main character is really boring.

Characters: Shikishima is probably one of the worst main characters I’ve ever seen, he’s brainy which is something I tend to appreciate, but the constant self analysis and over enthusiastic delving into psychology is really off putting. The rest of the cast is no better, with barely any depth given to anyone, even Shikishima is odd.

Art: The art is okay, but it doesn’t make up for the lack of a coherent plot direction.

Music: The musical score is okay, but not that amazing either.

Overall: Unless this gets significantly better in later episodes this is a series you’ll very likely want to skip.

For those who like: Psychology, Convoluted Plots.

Not for those who don’t like: Either of the above.

Anime Sunday: Last Encore Episode 01 Impressions

This week for Anime Sunday I’m back with a look at what is probably my most anticipated series of the season. It’s my Fate/Extra: Last Encore Episode 01 Impressions!

Plot Synopsis: Waking up in a strange academy with no recollection of the past, Kishinami Hakuno finds themselves forced to fight for survival in a war they do not understand for a prize beyond value; the opportunity to have one’s wish granted.

Plot: You see that synopsis above? Yea? Toss it out, that’s the story of the original Fate/Extra. What occurs in Last Encore is completely off track. As of writing this post I have only watched the 2 already released episodes and I’m still confused. Now given what Kinoko Nasu has said about Last Encore that is completely intended so I’m absolutely not alone in this.

Characters: We get to meet Hakuno in this episode as well as Leo, Sakura and Shinji. However stuff is odd, and while Fate/Extra is already confusing, Last Encore is so off track that I’m stumped as to whether I enjoyed the interactions between all the characters.

Artwork: The art is excellent, but while Shaft is an amazing studio I just can’t help but think that ufotable could’ve done a better job. It’s probably me just projecting my preferences though, and there is no significant issue with Shaft’s animation in particular.

Music: The music is good, although it lacks the same feeling as the original soundtrack from the game.

Overall: I’m really stuck whether I enjoy this series or not, so I plan on binge watching the entire thing in a couple days once it’s complete. You may or may not want to do something similar. It’ll probably help out a ton with understanding what the heck is going on though.

For those who like: The Fate series, Studio Shaft, Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Mind Benders, Fate/Extra, Great Artwork, Good Music.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.

Anime Sunday: PSO2 Episode 01 Impressions

pso2

This week for Anime Sunday I’m covering a series I didn’t have lots of hope for coming into the season. It’s the Phantasy Star Online, or PSO2 Episode 01 Impressions!

Plot Synopsis: Itsuki is a student at Seiga Academy, a place where everywhere you look everyone is playing this game called PSO2. But one day he get’s called to the Student Council room by the president unexpectedly. An event occurs that changes his outlook on life.

Plot: I don’t even know where to begin with how bad this is. It’s possibly one of the worst Anime I’ve ever watched, and that’s saying something. The premise of the series is so terrible that even I can’t suspend disbelief to believe it. The student council submits reports to the school board via PSO2? Seriously no one in that position gives a rat’s ass about what the students do in their free time as long as it’s not illegal, regardless of how popular this game is. Include all the various nods to Sega, there’s a Sonic head shaped water feature in the freaking school grounds, and Seiga (drop the “I”) Academy, and it looks like Sega just spent a bunch of money on something completely unnecessary considering how freaking popular the game is in Japan.

Characters: Bland, dull and I can’t stand writing about it anymore! The characters are terrible. I’ve seen better characters in tasteless trashy romance novels in the Elder Scrolls games or World of Warcraft.

Art: Nothing even decent here either, it uses a blend of 3DCG and traditional Anime art, and I can’t say I’m a fan of the 3D portion. I’ve never liked series that choose to use it in a way that is inherently obvious compared to the rest of the series.

Music: Needless to say it’s pretty bad.

Overall: Please don’t watch this piece of crap, and save your eyeballs from watching the Anime equivalent of Twilight in terms of biohazard danger.

For those who like: …, you know what there is nothing good to note about this series. So skip to the next line.

For those who don’t like: Having their brain cells tortured by watching such a piece of crap that it permanently damages them.
