Synth Saturday: Constellations Chapters 31-40 by UnwelcomeStorm

This week for Synth Saturday I’m back with the fourth set of chapters in Taylor and Sunny’s antics. It’s Constellations Chapters 31-40 by UnwelcomeStorm!

Plot: This set of chapters continues the past arc’s set of shenanigans and while it doesn’t top the Hot Springs incident it still has it’s hilarious moments. Though my favorite is probably Danny’s reaction to intruders. Still it has it’s serious moments, but overall it’s just some lighthearted fun, which is why I’m covering this Fic. We could all use some light heartedness at the moment I think.

Characters: We don’t get to meet many new faces, but Legend does show up albeit off screen mostly. I think it’s a missed oppurtunity to see him do spit takes at Sunny’s antics, but I guess Storm wanted to wait for the full Triumvirate for that.

Overall: A fun set of chapters, though not as great as the previous set it still lightens your mood considerably.

Synth Saturday: Constellations Chapters 21-30 by UnwelcomeStorm

This week for Synth Saturday I’m continuing Taylor and Sunny’s adventures. It’s Constellations Chapters 21-30 by UnwelcomeStorm!

Plot: This is a really fun set of chapters, and is pretty freaking hilarious. It’s probably the best set of chapters yet in the story and is completely insane in a very good way. The plot progresses very nicely and Taylor and Sunny get up to a bunch of shenanigans.

Characters: We get some more interactions between Lung and Taylor, which are always fun. The rest of the cast is equally as fun in this set of chapters.

Overall: A very fun set of chapters, and definitely worth reading.

Synth Saturday: Constellations Chapters 11-20 by UnwelcomeStorm

This week for Synth Saturday I’m covering the next set of chapters in Taylor and Amaterasu’s story. It’s Constellations Chapters 11-20 by UnwelcomeStorm!

Plot: This second set of chapters is just as hilarious as the first set. Frankly it had me cracking up multiple times a chapter at times. Frankly I love how UnwelcomeStorm has portrayed the Baachan Collective, which is pretty accurate for just about any collection of elderly grandmothers, most of the time.

Characters: Taylor and “Sunny” really get into some shenanigans in this set of chapters, the fact Taylor does most of the through sheer accident is just icing on the cake. I also love how Lung is portrayed in this Fic. We don’t get too many new characters or OCs, because the focus is on Taylor and Sunny most of the time.

Overall: An excellent set of chapters in a must read Fic.

Synth Saturday: Constellations Chapters 1-10 by UnwelcomeStorm

This week for Synth Saturday I’m back with another amusing Fic. It’s Constellations Chapters 1-10 by UnwelcomeStorm!

Plot: This is a crossover between Worm (Parahumans) and Okami. It’s also freaking hilarious, it has me routinely laughing from the sheer audacity that UnwelcomeStorm has written in what is generally a pretty dark story. Frankly it’s my favorite kind of Crossover because it takes the original story and completely changes it by introducing a Wildcard from another series. These first ten chapters set up the rest of the series. I won’t go to much into it, but if you love Worm and wanted to see a different and happier take on that story, Constellations is the Fic for you.

Characters: Taylor and Amaterasu are our two main characters. Frankly I love the fact that Ammy gets up to some crazy things, including somehow winning over some of the scariest characters in the entire series like Oni Lee. The fact that Ammy likes to screw with Armsmaster is also pretty funny.

Overall: This is a great Fic, frankly it’s in my must read category simply because of how much it makes me laugh. That alone is a rather rare treat for someone like me.

For those who like: Worm, Okami, Comedy, Action, Urban Fantasy, Great Plot, Fantastic Cast of Characters, Severe Plot Deviation.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above, but you really ought to give this a chance.

Retro Game Friday: Ōkami

okami_cover_art

This week for Retro Game Friday I’m covering a classic game that is one of my all time favorite games! It’s time for Ōkami to shine!

Plot Synopsis: The game is set in a Nippon (Japan) based on Japanese folklore, and begins with a flashback to events 100 years prior to the game’s present; the narrator describes how Shiranui, a pure white wolf, and Nagi, a swordsman, together fought the eight-headed demon Orochi to save Kamiki Village and the maiden Nami, Nagi’s beloved. Shiranui and Nagi are unable to defeat Orochi, so they seal the demon away.

In the game’s present, Susano, a descendant of Nagi and self-proclaimed greatest warrior, breaks Orochi’s seal due to the fact that he does not believe in the legend and wants to prove it false; Orochi escapes and curses the lands, sapping the life from every living being. Sakuya, the wood sprite and guardian of Kamiki Village, calls forth Amaterasu, the sun goddess, known to the villagers as the reincarnation of the white wolf Shiranui, and pleads for her to remove the curse that covers the land. Accompanied by the artist Issun (an inch-high creature known as a Poncle), Amaterasu is able to restore the land to its former beauty.

Plot: The game’s plot is great, and while it’s not full of twists and turns it’s still a great story. I won’t say much more other than that the influence of Japanese Mythology is huge, and if you are knowledgeable about it you’ll love the plot even more.

Gameplay: It plays a lot like Zelda, and that isn’t a bad thing at all. That being said I think that it definitely improves on the formula by adding different weapon types you can use for primary attacks. The Prayer Beads are quite fun. The other big feature of this game is to stop time temporarily and draw on the screen with a brush to perform attacks, or solve puzzles. It’s quite well done, and while it was a pain in the ass on the Wii port, the PS3 HD version doesn’t have any issues at all.

Music: The music is amazing, it’s full of Japanese folk music and it’s perfect for this game.

Art: Here is the real kicker and what makes this one of my top games of all time, the artwork for this game is just amazingly well done. It’s just stupendous.

Overall: If you haven’t played this yet, you should play the HD version on PlayStation Network right now!

For those who like: Great Games, Amazing Artwork, Fantastic Music, Excellent Gameplay, Solid Plot.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above, but if you hate all of that you aren’t a gamer.
