Serial Saturday: Dao of Magic Chapters 41-60 by Andries Louws

Hey all I’m back for this week’s Serial Saturday and my first post of 2020. It’s Dao of Magic Chapters 41-60 by Andries Louws!

Plot: This is the third set of chapters in Teach’s journey to teach a bunch of illiterate buffoons to wield arcane and immense powers. It’s also the last set of chapters for the first book according to the author. This is a pretty fun set of chapters with Teach really getting down into the nitty gritty portion of teaching his students. Or neglecting them and really half assing his teaching. Honestly it’s a bit of a toss up here. Still I enjoyed these chapters quite a bit and felt that it ends not on a cliffhanger which is makes the author designating chapter 60 actually a good sign that he knows what he’s doing.

Characters: We get to learn more about the students, although Tess is still my favorite. That being said Rhea is slowly climbing the ranks and may eventually supplant her, although she hasn’t gotten nearly enough screen time for me to really consider that for a while yet. Maybe Book 2 will change that.

Overall: A solid and good stopping point for a story arc, these chapters are just a continuation of Teach, well teaching.

Serial Saturday: Dao of Magic Chapters 21-40 by Andries Louws

Hey all I’m back with the second set of chapters of Teach’s adventures for this week’s Serial Saturday. It’s Dao of Magic Chapters 21-40 by Andries Louws!

Plot: This set of chapters really gets us into the thick of the plot and the main cast of characters that revolve around our main character Teach. Honestly it’s a hilarious set of chapters that really makes fun of the Xianxia and Xuanhuan genres as a whole and I loved every chapter of it. The fact that Teach also bursts out into song with Lola singing “I believe I can fly” is just icing on the cake. No really it’s not at all because I found the idea of throwing a rabbit many kilometers funny or anything. Not at all.

Characters: Of the characters I still think Tess is my favorite, mostly because she’s got that skewed moral compass being a thief and is a really good one. That said the entire cast grew on me, with Ket being a new character I might really enjoy in future chapters. Still this is a great set of chapters for character development, although Teach stays relatively the same.

Overall: A hilarious series, this set of chapters just helps cement my opinion that I should’ve been reading this series much sooner. Although I wouldn’t have nearly as many chapters to binge read if I had, so maybe it’s for the best.

Serial Saturday: Dao of Magic Chapters 1-20 by Andries Louws

This week for Serial Saturday I’m back with another series. It’s Dao of Magic Chapters 1-20 by Andries Louws!

Plot: This story is about a Cultivator, who is later called Teach, that gets slapped down into a lower realm and ends up mucking around in that lower realm. It’s mostly a parody or satire on the whole Cultivation genre and it’s pretty hilarious. Honestly if you love the Xianxia or Xuanhuan genres at all, you’ll get a kick out of The Dao of Magic.

Characters: The cast is pretty bare bones to start, mostly consisting of Teach and a few others, like Lola the Bunny. Honestly my favorite character is probably Tess, if only because I enjoy sneaky rogue type characters and she’s a pretty good one. That said Lola comes close, because she’s cute and it’s not at all because I found it absolutely hilarious when Teach starts punting her. Nope, not at all.

Overall: For fans of the Cultivation genre you’ll love this series, so give it a shot.

For those who like: Xianxia, Xuanhuan, Cultivation, Action, Adventure, Comedy, Great Plot, Fantastic Cast of Characters.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.

TNT: Black Belly Miss Chapters 201-240 by North Night

I’m back with another set of chapters in Jun Wuxie’s adventures for this week’s Translation Necessary Thursday. It’s Genius Doctor: Black Belly Miss Chapters 201-240 by North Night!

Plot Synopsis: Having overcome the schemes and deposed the previous emperor of Qi, Wuxie is now dealing with the shock of the demands by the Qin Yu Sect. They came back to get both Bai Yunxian and an item called the Soul Jade. But there is a problem, the jade was split in half and one half is buried with Wuxie’s father in the family grave….

Plot: This is a pretty significant set of chapters, and sets up the the impetus for the rest of the series. That’s all I’ll say on that matter, but I will say that this is a rather awesome set of chapters.

Characters: We get to see a couple new faces, but mostly it’s all about Wuxie. That being said my favorite newcomer is Drunk Lotus.

Overall: A great set of chapters.

TNT: Talisman Emperor Chapters 41-80 by Xiao Jinyu

This week for Translation Necessary Thursday I’m back with another set of chapters in Chen Xi’s adventures. It’s Talisman Emperor Chapters 41-80 by Xiao Jinyu!

Plot Synopsis: Chen Xi was a jinx who radiated misfortune the way a torch radiated light, and everyone around him knew it. His entire clan was annihilated when he was young, and not too long after that his parents disappeared. His marriage contract? Poof. Torn to shreds and gone up in smoke before the eyes of everyone in the city, almost humiliating his grandfather to the point of suicide! Cultivation? No time for that, he had a family to take care of! This is the story of Chen Xi, a youth forced to stop cultivating and instead craft talismans to pay for his younger brother’s tuition… and who, in the process, would rise to become known by all as the Talisman Emperor….

Plot: The plot of this second set of chapters is pretty good, and really quite fast paced. It moves us along the plot and finally gets us out of Chen Xi’s hometown. I won’t say more than that because it’d be spoilers, and you know my policy on those.

Characters: We get to meet quite a few new characters, but my favorite is probably Du Qingxi. Probably because she isn’t a giant bitch.

Overall: A good set of chapters. If you’ve enjoyed the novel thus far, you’ll probably still be enjoying it.
