Sensate Saturday: Watashi no Messiah-sama by Minazuki Suu [Quick Review]

messiah

This week for Sensate Saturday I’m doing another Quick Review! It’s Watashi no Messiah-sama by Minazuki Suu!

Plot Synopsis: Shinya doesn’t get good grades. He’s weak, a coward, not athletic… he’s a general good for nothing. One day; however, he meets Haruna, a girl who could change his life forever.

Plot: That plot hook doesn’t do this first chapter much justice, but it’s also accurate. I enjoyed this first chapter immensely and I’ll get to reading the rest of the series as soon possible, when my story backlog isn’t full to the brim.

Characters: Shinya is truly one of the most worthless main leads I’ve ever met, he’s up there with Tsuna from Reborn in terms of having no self-confidence. That said I do actually like him, his being a social outcast might be a standard trope, but it’s an effective tool.  Haruna on the other hand is full of mysteries, I’m looking forward to learning more about her.

Art: Pretty good, but not as good as stuff made more recently, that being said I don’t mind the art style being a bit outdated at all.

Overall: Another series I’m going to say give a shot to, I certainly will be continuing to read the series, when I get rid of my current backlog.

Sensate Saturday: Omamori Himari by Milan Matra [Quick Review]

omamori_himari

This week for Sensate Saturday I’m back with a Quick Review of a series I’ve got mixed feelings about. It’s all about Omamori Himari by Milan Matra!

Plot Synopsis: Seven years ago, Yuto Amakawa’s parents died in a car accident, leaving him alone without a single relative, the only item left of his family being a strange and mysterious amulet given to him by his late grandmother. Ever since then, his childhood friend Rinko Kuzaki (and her parents) has cooked for and taken care of him. However his life takes a drastic turn on his 16th birthday.

Plot: First off for those who haven’t read of a Quick Review of mine, I only cover my impressions of the first chapter of a series and give it a quick judgement. There will be only a short review and my thoughts on whether I’ll continue reading the series or not. For this series it seems to be one of those Romantic Comedy series that’s mixed with the Battle Series genre and is pretty much everywhere. It’s not super original and the only interesting hook is that Yuuto has an allergy to cats. This left a lot to be desired and I’ll probably not continue reading.

Characters: Yuto is the typical Romcom dunce, while his childhood friend Rinko is obviously in love with him when another girl intrudes in his life. Himari, is at least interesting, but Yuto totally killed the series for me.

Overall: If you are really bored you might give this series a shot, but I’m stopping after this first chapter. I’ve got much better series to give my time to.

TNT: Sendai Yuusha wa Inkyou Shitai Volume 01 by Iida K

sendai

This week for Translation Necessary Thursday I’m covering a new series I read recently. It’s Sendai Yuusha wa Inkyou Shitai, or The Previous Hero Wants to Retire in English, Volume 01 by Iida K!

Plot Synopsis:Three years ago, in the land of Reinbulk, a Legendary Hero was summoned in the Kindom of Leezalion and he succeeded in repelling the Demon King. Now, five students are summoned back into Reinbulk by the Kingdom of Luxeria to fight against the Demon King and the demon army. Unlike the other heroes, Yashiro Yuu has no magical affinity and the Luxeria Kingdom has no intention on acknowledging his existence or returning him to his world. However, Yuu is actually the previous Hero that had fought the Demon King.

Plot: The plot is quite good, and I enjoy these Parallel World stories quite a bit, but this one has an excellent twist and plot hook. I really do enjoy this series so I’m hoping it continues to get translated quickly.

Characters: Yuu is hilariously perverted, but he’s also earnest and that earns him the respect of various figures including royalty and highly respected mages. The rest of the cast is quite good as well, but Yuu is easily my favorite because he’s such a nerd and occasionally comically delusional.

Art: I read the web novel translation, but this is also a Light Novel series so they included the images from the Light Novel which was quite well done. Nothing like No Game No Life, but still very good.

Overall: This is worth the time to read, although only one volume has been fully translated.

For those who like: Parallel Worlds, Magic, Fantasy, Action, Drama, Comedy.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
