Serial Saturday: Arcane Emperor Chapters 1-9 by Aternus

This week for Serial Saturday I’m back with a series that I was hoping the author would start updating again, and they did so I’ve decided to cover it. It’s Arcane Emperor Chapters 1-9 by Aternus!

Plot Synopsis: Rainer, an amateur arcanist and college student, sought to create a new spell far surpassing the magic of the few he inherited from his grandfather, walking on walls. Yet the interference of an unknown event during the casting of his spell led him to be thrown through space and time…

Plot: The plot of this series is pretty freaking awesome, and while there are some who might say that it’s generic and uninnovative, I would say that it doesn’t matter as it’s done in a way that is highly enjoyable and entertaining. I was really disappointed that the author had a 6 month break, but now that they have started updating again I’m quite happy and hopeful that it will get the finish that it deserves.

Characters: Rainer is a pretty awesome male lead, he’s quite genre savy and while he was trying to walk on a wall, that doesn’t stop him from enjoying the hell out of the mishap. The rest of the cast is rather small, and I won’t spoil it by giving out names, it is quite an enjoyable cast at this time.

Overall: A solid and rather excellent series, that takes the Isekai genre and carves it into what could be a masterpiece.

For those who like: Fantasy, LitRPGs, Isekai, Drama, Action, Adventure, Excellent Plot, Fantastic Cast of Characters.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above, but I highly suggest giving this series a shot.

Serial Saturday: Our Chaoz Chapters 48-67 by SlyOkami

This week for Serial Saturday I’m back with more chapters in Kyle’s adventures. It’s Our Chaoz Chapters 48-67 by SlyOkami!

Plot Synopsis: Having come to the decision to attempt to negotiate with the Dezol legions, the Blood Pack Mercenaries are now dealing with the aftermath of the attack of the Demon Prince and a new recruit to the guild. But how much will change with their changing allegiances? How will forces from both the Divine and Mortal worlds will react to this sudden change?…

Plot: This is probably one of the bigger turning points in the series, and this entire set of chapters really reflects that. It’s a fun ride as well.

Characters: We get to meet a ton of new people, but mostly it’s still focused on those we know. Sparta is a great new addition to the cast though.

Overall: A solid set of chapters that comes right after one of the more bizarre plot twists I’ve ever seen.

Serial Saturday: Kuro’s Days Chapters 1-13 by Branya

This week for Serial Saturday I’m covering a real oddball series. It’s Kuro’s Days Chapters 1-13 by Branya!

Plot Synopsis: I was a 30-year-old good for nothing, but because I had run out of food, I had to rely on my only hope. Expired instant noodles… When I finally awoke, I found myself as my loli game character from the game Skyrim in a magical cyberpunk world. I could tell that this new life was not a game and it would be a struggle just to survive. I experienced too much unreasonableness in my life. This time, I will absolutely live a happy life in this new world. Huh? You say instant noodles don’t expire? I also believed that, but in reality, they can….

Plot: Like I said, an oddball series. Honestly this is a self insert fiction that takes the main character’s abilities from Skyrim. It’s not that great, amusing at times, but not that great.

Characters: The entire cast is pretty odd, and while they aren’t lacking depth, they don’t have a ton of it either. Also Kuro is a huge pervert, so if that is a deal breaker you’ll really want to stay away from this series.

Overall: You can find a lot better series out there, but you can also find worse ones. This has it’s own amusing moments, but it’s got no overall plot, and really just showcases the protagonist’s daily life as she gets used to the new world she finds herself in.

For those who like: Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Slice of Life, Action, Adventure.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above, mediocrity, or perverted lead characters.

Serial Saturday: Our Chaoz Chapters 27-47 by SlyOkami

This week for Serial Saturday I’m back with the third arc in Kyle’s adventures. It’s Our Chaoz Chapters 24-27 by SlyOkami!

Plot Synopsis: Having declared war against Liliana and her demonic forces Kyle and his friends have decided to take the fight to them. But all is not as it seems and as they arrive at a Dwarven fortress Kyle starts to have some doubts about himself, this world and the people in it…

Plot: This is a pretty great set of chapters, and honestly I didn’t see most of what occurs in this set coming. Which for me is incredibly rare, as many long time readers of mine will know. For those unaware about what I’m talking about, I’ve got a gift for taking apart plots and seeing potential plot twists and can forsee the course of most novels with a good degree of accuracy just after reading only 50 pages. There are some exceptions, like Murder-Mystery series, but even those don’t tend to surprise me all that often.

That’s why I do what I do, which is review stories. I enjoy them deeply and while I can see many plot lines before they fully unfold, I still enjoy almost every story. Plus I read a good 1,000+ pages of text a day typically. But that’s getting off topic.

Characters: We get introduced to some more of Kyle’s guildies in this set of chapters, and we get even more insight into how Kyle and the others work. It’s a great time and honestly I really enjoy all the wackiness that happens with Kyle and his friends.

Overall: A great set of chapters in a series that can surprise even me.

Serial Saturday: Once Human, Now a Parasite Chapters 81-120 by Crow

This week for Serial Saturday I’m back with the third set of chapters in Arthur and Lucy’s adventure. It’s Once Human, Now a Parasite Chapters 81-120 by Crow!

Plot Synopsis: Having traveled to the Underworld to retrieve his foster daughter with his wife Lucy, Arthur now faces off against beings so much more powerful than him that he realizes he’s way over his head…

Plot: This is a really mind boggling set of chapters and I’ll be honest, it’s just about where I stopped the first (and thus far only) time I read the series. So while I really enjoyed this set of chapters, it ends on a pretty big cliff hanger. Next time I cover this series will be when the situation is resolved. We’ll see.

Characters: We get a ton of new faces, but Lucy, Arthur and Saly are the main focus of this set of chapters. That being said we also get some surprise visits from some old friends.

Overall: If you weren’t interested in the series before, you ought to be by the time you finish reading this set of chapters.

Serial Saturday: Our Chaoz Chapters 17-26 by SlyOkami

This week for Serial Saturday I’m back with the second set of chapters in Kyle’s adventures. It’s Our Chaoz Chapters 17-26 by SlyOkami!

Plot Synopsis: Having been suddenly told that what he once thought of as a game is now a reality, Kyle and his friends prepare to deal with the fallout and face off against the demons and the demi-goddess that stuck them here in this reality. But along the way Kyle starts remembering things, things he’s been blocked from remembering….

Plot: This is where the story starts to get really, odd. Odd is the best word I can use for this, because I really can’t describe it without spoiling things. So if you are at all curious at what has even me stumped to describe, you probably should read this series.

Characters: We get introduced to quite a few new characters, but our star is still Kyle, for the most part. We get other PoVs and they are quite interesting to read. I can’t say more without spoiling things.

Overall: Definitely worth reading, I’m stumped even describing this story, and that’s a rarity for me.

Serial Saturday: Once Human, Now a Parasite Chapters 41-80 by Crow

This week for Serial Saturday I’m covering the second set of chapters in Arthur’s adventures. It’s Once Human, Now a Parasite Chapters 41-80 by Crow!

Plot Synopsis: Arthur, an incredibly successful businessman was kidnapped and tortured for months by men his wife hired just so she could get his money. After months of this hell, he was given a second chance, a new life in a different world. Arthur would, of course, rather start a new life; than stay and continue to be tortured…

Plot: This set of chapters stays fairly dark, but it also is a lot more heartwarming. Now you might be saying, “Michael that goes against the point of Arthur’s actions up to this point”. Sort of, but it makes sense to me as it’s about Arthur growing past the horror of what he went through at the end of his previous life. That’s all I’ll say in regards to the plot, as any more would probably be incredibly spoiler-ific.

Characters: We get quite a few new faces this set of chapters, but my favorite is Saly. You’ll find out why if you read the chapters.

Overall: A solid set of chapters in a fairly solid series.
