Anime Sunday: Cautious Hero Episode 01 Impressions

Hey all I’m back with another series from the Fall 2019 season for this week’s Anime Sunday. It’s my Cautious Hero Episode 01 Impressions!

Plot: This is almost pure satire, and it’s pretty funny. It pokes fun at pretty much every single gaming and Isekai stereotype out there. The plot was pretty slow in this first episode, but given that this is based off a Light Novel series I can’t help but think that it was in the adaptation’s favor to do so, although I haven’t read the original Light Novels.

Characters: Rista and Seiya are our two main characters and they are pretty hilarious. Rista is the typical goddess on the outside, but she’s pretty snarky in her own thoughts and speech, which was a nice deviation from the standard trope. Seiya is a really cautious guy, and overprepares for EVERYTHING. A friend gives him some lunch? He’ll check for poison. I personally thought that was hilarious, although the gag might get annoying later on if it continues. So if they keep playing it up it might annoying.

Art: The art is pretty good, White Fox did the animation and they did pretty damn good, but still not up to my gold standard of ufotable.

Music: The musical score is decent, and the theme was at least catchy. It wasn’t overly memorable, but it wasn’t terrible either.

Overall: This might be really good, this first episode was pretty funny, although if they keep playing the overly cautious gag all the time it might get annoying.

For those who like: Isekai, Action, Comedy, Overpowered Heroes.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.

TNT: Instant Death Volume 01 by Fujitaka Tsuyoshi

This week for Translation Necessary Thursday I’m covering another Isekai series. It’s Instant Death Volume 01 by Fujitaka Tsuyoshi!

Plot: This is a pretty funny story. I’ll admit that it has some stereotypical Isekai nonsense with overpowered heroes, but Instant Death as a cheat skill is pretty much the ultimate one of them all. Still this is more of a parody of the Isekai genre, I mean the main character Yogiri just has to want something to die to instantly kill it. It’s absolutely ridiculous and it’s played for laughs pretty often. The plot of this first volume is much more comedic than anything else, but it still has it’s serious moments.

Characters: Tomochika and Yogiri are our two main characters, with Tomochika being a pretty happy go lucky girl who gets screwed over pretty much from the start and rightfully starts panicking. Yogiri was just plain lazy, which is kind of hilarious. The rest of the cast is pretty much full of jerks, with a few exceptions. I won’t say who, but they aren’t who you think they are for the most part.

Overall: This is a fun parody of the Isekai genre as a whole. Instant Death has it’s serious moments, but the fact that the male lead can kill ANYTHING with but a thought, makes tension really hard to build up.

For those who like: Fantasy, Action, Adventure, Isekai, Overpowered Protagonists, Funny Plot, Decent Cast of Characters.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above, but give it a shot.

Anime Sunday: Kenja no Mago Episode 01 Impressions

Hey all I’m back with the first Spring 2019 series for this week’s Anime Sunday. It’s my Kenja no Mago Episode 01 Impressions!

Plot: The plot is pretty awesome, the main character is quite clueless about how ridiculous he is and it’s quite frankly hilarious. I mean sure it’s hitting all the standard Isekai/Tensei plot devices, but the fact it does it well and in such humorous ways is awesome in my opinion. Whether this stays the case for however long the series airs, and I’m hoping for a 2-cour here, remains to be seen of course. But I have high hopes that this will be a fun series to watch.

Characters: Shin is our lead, and while he seems to have his head on right, he is quite lacking in the common sense department, which is the main plot device that is seen in this episode. Frankly I found it to be hilarious like I said above, but for some this might not be to their liking. The rest of the cast we see in this episode is pretty interesting, with Merlin being just as comedic in his actions, if not manner, as Shin. Frankly though my favorite character was Melida, if only because she seems to have the most common sense of the bunch, which leads to her throttling Merlin which like I said is funny as all hell.

Art: This is not the best animated series, but it’s also far from the worst and there could be much worse studios working on this series other than Silver Link, but it’s not even close to my gold standard ufotable’s level of quality.

Music: The musical score was pretty good in this first episode, though I didn’t hear the theme songs.

Overall: A fun series, though cliched it does so in a way that makes you really not care all that much about it and just enjoy the story.

For those who like: Isekai/Tensei Stories, Fantasy, Magic, Overpowered Main Characters, Good Plot, Funny Cast of Characters, Decent Artwork, Good Musical Score.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.

Serial Saturday: Azarinth Healer Chapters 10-18 by Rhaegar

This week for Serial Saturday I’m back with the second set of chapters in Rhaegar’s first novel. It’s Azarinth Healer Chapters 10-18 by Rhaegar!

Plot: The plot moves on pretty quickly and we finally get to see Ilea really put her powers into action against things other than Drakes. And it’s quite a blast to read. That’s all I’ll say, because if you enjoyed the story up to here, this set of chapters isn’t going to change that opinion.

Characters: We get to meet a few new characters in this set of chapters, but my favorite is Ellie easily. That being said Ilea is still the star of the show and I can’t say that it’s a bad thing since she’s such a fun character.

Overall: A fun and very good set of chapters in this series written by a complete amateur.

Anime Sunday: Tensura Episode 01 Impressions

Hey all I’m back with another new series for this week’s Anime Sunday. It’s my Tensura Episode 01 Impressions!

Plot: This first episode is pretty focused on the Mikami’s life in Modern Day Japan, and while it does get us to the first big plot point it’s taking it’s time. So those wanting a ton of action will probably be disappointed. I wasn’t one of those people however as I’m really happy they’re taking a slow pace with the series and doing the story justice. I will admit I’ve read the Light Novels this is adapted from, and seeing it take such a slow pace when compared to the frenetic pace other adaptations have done in the past is really good.

Characters: Mikami is a pretty standard dude, honestly he’s kind of boring. Thankfully the rest of the story will make up for that, and Veldora was awesome to see in the Anime. Veldora was a very fun character. We don’t get to meet much of the cast though, but since it’s just the first episode that’s okay.

Art: The art is pretty awesome, and while it’s not ufotable quality Studio 8-Bit did a pretty darn good job.

Music: The music is okay, but it’s not that intense in this first episode so who knows how the rest of the series will handle music.

Overall: An excellent adaptation, with good pacing and excellent artwork.

For those who like: Isekai, Tensei, Fantasy, Magic, Drama, Action, Adventure,Awesome Plot, Great Cast of Characters, Outstanding Artwork, Good Music.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
