Anime Sunday: Menu for Emiya Family Episode 01 Impressions

This week for Anime Sunday I’ve got another series from the latest season of Anime. It’s my Today’s Menu for Emiya Family Episode 01 Impressions!

Plot Synopsis: The story centers around Shirou Emiya cooking dishes for the other Fate/stay night characters.

Plot: The plot is thin, this doesn’t take place in a Fuyuki where a Holy Grail War is waging. Instead it’s a simple Slice of Life series that is quite a bit like Shokugeki no Soma, except without the fanservice.

Characters: This episode only features Artoria, Shirou, Illya, Sakura and Taiga, but I imagine later episodes will show other characters like Rin or Medusa.

Art: The animation is done by ufotable, although it definitely has a softer feel than most of their usual series. That being said it’s still got awesome animation, as I’ve come to expect from their studio.

Music: The music is pretty good, although given the short nature of the episodes it’s not really the focus of the series.

Overall: A fun watch, and for those culture junkies or foodies you’ll enjoy learning about various tidbits that are littered through out this episode.

For those who like: Cooking, Culture, Fate, Awesome Artwork.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above, but how can you hate all of that?

Manga Monday: Fate/mahjong night by TYPE-MOON

This week for Manga Monday I’m covering an oddball adaptation! It’s Fate/mahjong night by TYPE-MOON!

Plot: It’s essentially Fate/Stay Night meets mahjong, with the Holy Grail War being fought by playing mahjong. Yea it’s pretty freaking ridiculous, but this is TYPE-MOON we are talking about, they can do some pretty oddball stuff.

Characters: We have all the various characters from Fate/Stay Night show up in this adaptation, since it’s pretty much Fate/Stay Night, just a little different. Rin is still my favorite character, though Sakura is pretty awesome as well. However since this is a 4-Koma adaptation expect some gags.

Art: The art is awesome, in fact it’s great. I wouldn’t expect this to be originally published on the web, but it’s not bad at all.

Overall: This is a pretty funny take on the hugely popular Fate/Stay Night storylines, so if you’re a TYPE-MOON fan at all, you’ll probably want to check the series out.

Anime Sunday: Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works Final Impressions

This week on Anime Sunday I’m covering my final thoughts on the Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works adaptation that recently ended.

Plot: It was very well done, and I’m glad that it had nods to the prequel series Fate/Zero, as was hinted at way back in Episode 02 by Saber. I had one little criticism and that’s the fact that the sex scene was just straight up removed, I didn’t want anything obscene or excessive, but it paid very little respect to the original Visual Novel in that regard.  At least it wasn’t as bad as the Fate route series which had a really odd sequence.

Characters: I loved how the series went into the various backstories of most of the various masters, but I’m sad that Sakura and Lancer got the short straws and were never explored. That being said that’s a minor complaint because I have to say that they did an amazing job with everything that was the Unlimited Blade Works route and putting it into an Anime.

Art: ufotable consistently pulls off masterworks, and this series just confirms my assertion that they are the best anime studio out there, rivaling any other studio with ease and beating most outright in terms of quality work. I think I noticed one animation gaff, and it was a very minor one during a single frame of animation, which for a 26 episode series is freaking amazing.

Music: Amazingly well done, it set up the tone of the series perfectly and I enjoyed every opening and ending theme just as much. I particularly enjoyed the opening themes, performed by Mashiro Ayano and Aimer.

Overall: If you want to watch an amazing series look no further it has pretty much everything you’ll ever want in a series. It truly is that good.
