Sensate Saturday: From Maid to Mother by Yuzuki Seiya

This week for Sensate Saturday I’ve got a Quick Review of an adaptation from a Light Novel. It’s From Maid to Mother by Yuzuki Seiya!

Plot Synopsis: A high school girl reincarnates in another world as Lily Ruzsa. While she occasionally reminisces about her past life, she is now known as “the Maid of the Royal Family,” after helping to rear the lady who eventually married the crown prince. One day she gets a sudden and unexpected request from the Court Magician….

Plot: The plot of this first chapter is more amusing than heartwarming, though I will say I took a peek at the second chapter and it does become rather heartwarming. This isn’t a series full of action and adventure, it’s decidedly Slice of Life and that isn’t a bad thing.

Characters: Lily is our main character and she doesn’t have any cheats, or special abilities from reincarnating into another world. All she has is her knowledge as a motherless child from Japan who had to take care of her younger brother and sister while her father worked. It’s a refreshing change of pace from the cheat level characters that so often happen in Tensei or Isekai stories. Leonard, the male lead, isn’t a bad character just really blunt and socially awkward. I like him quite a bit, if only because I see parts of myself in him.

Art: The art is excellent, which makes me really want to read the original Light Novel, however said Light Novel hasn’t been translated past the first few chapters.

Overall: A great read if you need something to warm your heart up on a Winter day.

For those who like: Slice of Life, Fantasy, Magic, Drama, Romance, Excellent and Heartwarming Plot, Great Cast of Characters, Awesome Artwork.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above, but how can you hate all that?

Sensate Saturday: ReRe Hello by Minami Touko

This week for Sensate Saturday I’ve got another Quick Review. It’s ReRe Hello by Minami Touko!

Plot Synopsis: When Ririko was five, she lost her mother. It’s been ten years since then, now she helps out her family by doing most of the household tasks. Her father started a handyman company, but then something horrible happened…

Plot: This is a pretty interesting series, it’s not super amazing and gripping, but it’s not really full of stereotypes either. I’ll probably continue to read it eventually, although it will probably be a while.

Characters: Ririko is a fairly interesting female lead, she isn’t the typical damsel in distress you find in some Shoujo series. The rest of the cast is also pretty interesting, especially Towa.

Art: The art is superb as you’d expect from a Shueisha series.

Overall: Worth a read if you Slice of Life Romances are your cup of tea.

For those who like: Romance, Slice of Life, Drama, School Life, Intersting Plot, Good Cast of Characters, Awesome Artwork.

Sensate Saturday: Pika Ichi by Mochida Aki

This week for Sensate Saturday I’ve got another Quick Review. It’s Pika Ichi by Mochida Aki!

Plot Synopsis: “Pika Ichi” is the story of two painfully shy teens who love yakuza movies. An incident at school pushes them over the edge, and they decide to drop their mousiness in order to dispense some “justice”.

Plot: The plot is okay, but where the lack of presence was endearing in a series like Kuroko’s Basketball, in Pika Ichi it’s just annoying. It might be because I don’t get the whole Yakuza movie subculture, and that is probably a big reason, but I just felt like the series was really boring.

Characters: Tarou and Hanako are our leads, and they are so average it’s painful. Frankly the rest of the cast isn’t much better except for the oddball school doctor.

Art: The art is okay, but again nothing really amazing either.

Overall: Like it’s main characters Pika Ichi is very average, it’s not terrible, but it’s not interesting either.

For those who like: Drama, Slice of Life, School Life.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above, or mediocrity.

Sensate Saturday: Suki ni Naranai yo Senpai by Hatsuharu

This week for Sensate Saturday I’ve got another Quick Review. It’s Suki ni Naranai yo Senpai by Hatsuharu!

Plot Synopsis: Falling in love with a painting while at a school’s festival, Iku is able to meet the gentle high schooler who created it. She falls in love at first sight and with that feeling in her heart, decides to enroll in that high school! But, what happens when she joins the art club and discovers her gentle prince has disappeared and a sleazeball has taken his place?!

Plot: This is a pretty stereotypical story. Frankly I’m not interested in continuing to read it. However it is completed in Japan so maybe I’ll read it if I ever get desperate enough and lack something else to read. The likelyhood of that is fairly low though.

Characters: Iku is a pretty normal girl, in fact she’s pretty damn average in just about everything. Nagaike on the other hand is more than a bit of an ass. However that’s fairly normal for high school aged boys, so again nothing new.

Art: The art at least is good, but it’s not enough for me to continue reading the series.

Overall: A fairly average series, if you are super desperate for a Romance to read it would do in a pinch, but there are better series out there. It’s still a better love story than Twilight though.

Sensate Saturday: Fremd Torturchen by Ayasato Keishi

This week I’m back with another Quick Review for Sensate Saturday. It’s Fremd Torturchen by Ayasato Keishi!

Plot Synopsis: After dying a tragic and horrible death, Sena Kaito was reborn in another world and confronted with a peerless beauty, Elisabeth, who had appeared before his eyes. Introducing herself as “Torturchen,” she commanded Kaito to become her servant….

Plot: This first chapter’s plot was pretty messed up, and while it definitely caught my attention I’ll probably put this on my wait to be read shelf. This isn’t due to anything wrong with the series, it’s just that it looks to be a fairly depressing series on the whole, so I’m going to wait to read it until I’m not so personally stressed out.  I should also mention that this is an adaptation from a Light Novel.

Characters: Kaito is a pretty pathetic protagonist, but that is more due to his circumstances than his own faults. I’m sure he has some, but we really didn’t get to see much of those in this first chapter. Elizabeth on the other hand seems to be a little odd, and while she’s obviously not a nice and cheerful woman it’s clear that she has her own issues from her past. We didn’t really get introduced to anyone else in this chapter.

Art: The art is pretty good, while it’s not super amazing it isn’t terrible either.

Overall: If you can deal with the obvious depressing nature of the series, it might just be a good read.
