Anime Sunday: Wotakoi Episode 01 Impressions

Hey all I’m back with another Spring 2018 series for this week’s Anime Sunday. It’s my Wotakoi Episode 01 Impressions!

Plot Synopsis: 26-year-old Momose Narumi is a die-hard fujoshi otaku who recently switched jobs, in hopes of being able to play off an image of a perfect, beautiful young lady. However, her hopes are crashed when she reunites with her middle school classmate Nifuji Hirotaka, an avid gamer otaku that knows about her secret….

Plot: The plot is pretty great, it’s very open about how socially unacceptable being a nerd or otaku is in modern culture. This is a lesser factor in the West, but the stigma is still prevalent nonetheless. That being said if you aren’t a fan of Slice of Life series in general this will be a series you’ll want to skip.

Characters: Narumi is a pretty good female lead and Hirotaka is just as good a male lead. The rest of the cast is rather small at this point so I can’t really comment on them.

Art: The art is pretty great, while it’s not ufotable quality work, it is pretty dang good and easily beats anything Studio Deen could produce.

Music: The music isn’t very memorable sadly.

Overall: A good series for those who don’t mind some cringe worthy parts and Slice of Life.

For those who like: Romance, Slice of Life, Drama, Good Plot.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.

Anime Sunday: Mahou Shoujo Ore Episode 01 Impressions

This week for Anime Sunday I’m covering a series from the Spring 2018 Season. It’s my Mahou Shoujo Ore Episode 01 Impressions!

Plot Synopsis: Unpopular idol and high school student Uno Saki discovers that her mother, Sayori, used to be a “magical girl,” but, as a result of back problems, found it necessary to pass her position down to Saki. With the help of a Yakuza-like mascot character named Kokoro.

Plot: The plot is pretty freaking ridiculous, and is full of references to other magical girl shows, including Sailor Moon. Frankly I might have enjoyed the show a bit, but it broke the fourth wall a bit too many times. I’m not a fan of that particular trope, so the usage of it in the series isn’t doing it any favors for me personally. That being said, the show is pretty freaking funny and I was totally not expecting the plot to go the way it did.

Characters: The cast is good, but frankly it’s not amazing. It’s not terrible to the point that I forgot characters names in an attempt to mind bleach my memory as soon as possible, but it’s not far from reaching that point either.

Art: The art is okay, but it’s nothing spectacular. Studio Pierrot is the animation studio behind this series, and while I’ve enjoyed their work in the past, I’ve also seen better from them. Maybe it’s because of the ridiculousness of this show and I’m just having a hard time really appreciating it.

Music: The music is okay, but it’s fairly forgettable.

Overall: An okay show, but not something I’ll be continuing to watch unless I hear some really freaking amazing things about it.

For those who like: Comedy, Magical Girls, Good Art.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.

Anime Sunday: Most Anticipated Spring 2018 Anime

This week for Anime Sunday I’m covering some of the new shows that’ll be airing this upcoming season. It’s my Most Anticipated Spring 2018 Anime!

Mahou Shoujo Ore: I have no freaking clue at all about what this show is about. All I know is it’s an adaptation of a Manga and that the title makes me really interested in seeing what’s going on. For those unaware, Ore is the distinctly male pronoun used be oneself. So the fact that the show is called Magical Girl Me (with a huge male undertone) makes me curious. It also reminds of Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? Which was a fairly amusing series on it’s own.

Golden Kamuy: I read the first chapter of this Manga a while back and was pretty interested. Now that it’s getting an Anime I’ll probably give this a shot. It’s definitely not for kids, as it’s got a very serious tone, but for those more mature Anime fans, this might be a good show to watch. We’ll see.

Honorable Mentions:

My Hero Academia Sesaon 3: I really need to watch the past two seasons as I’ve heard only great things about this series and I personally enjoyed the hell out of the early chapters of the original source material myself. So this is getting an Honorable Mention.

Persona 5: Again like My Hero Academia, I’ve only heard amazing things about Persona 5. I probably won’t personally watch this series until I get around to buying and playing the game. But I imagine fans of the game and Persona series in general will want to watch this.

That’s it for this week’s Anime Sunday. Any shows you are looking forward to you think I missed? Leave them in a comment below!
