Re-start Tomorrow!

Hey all I’m back and I just wanted to give a short update on my plans.

You ARE starting tomorrow right?: Yep, that is what’s happening, and I promise that you’ll be seeing posts on both here and GiN starting tomorrow.

That being said I am doing posts every 4 days to ease myself back into writing, this is the longest hiatus I’ve gone through since I started writing, and while I really did need this break to get my head and life back to a semblance of normalcy, it’s going to take me a while to get back to daily posts. So my plan is for me to keep the posts to every 4 days through the summer, because I really don’t like the summer months due to all the heat and they stress me out enough usually without all the stuff I’ve been dealing with.

So once summer is over I should be back to doing daily posts, depending on the weather here in the Pacific Northwest that could be from early September to even late October. I’m hoping it’ll be earlier than later, but frankly the heat makes me incredibly lethargic.

Reviews will continue to be weekly things for the books, unless someone else gets a book review for GiN and needs to run it that week, and on a receipt basis for games. Heads up I’ve got a real blistering review of a game coming up in the next week or two and it’s not the one that’s launching tomorrow on GiN. Look forward to that, because it’s going to be a doozy and frankly I’ll be hoping people will comment on it as it’s got unusual “issues”….

Launch Detected

Hey all I’m sorry for taking so long to get another update to you all on how I’m doing and when I’ll be starting to blog again. Things have been stressful and I really needed time off from my blogging to get stuff under control. It was getting to the point where I was losing sleep and was visibly looking unwell across a video call to some relatives of mine. However the end is in sight, and I’m planning on starting to blog soon.

So when is it?: My plan is to resume blogging on May 1st, a month after this post. And no this isn’t an April Fools joke. the plan really is for me to get back into blogging then and keep to my previous post schedule of doing one every 3-4 days until the beginning of August, where I hope to have gotten back into the swing of things enough to start up my daily posts. The covered material will stay the same as it was before the break, with me keeping to doing different topics for each day of the week. I’m still deciding on whether to do it every three or four days at the moment though and I can’t say for certainty which it will be.

I haven’t been idle these past months and while I wasn’t up for writing about stories, I still was consuming them at my usual pace so I’ve got plenty of material to write about. I just want to ease myself back into writing, as this is the longest break I’ve taken so far from writing since I started doing so over 5 years ago. The usual book and audiobook reviews on GiN will be posted as they have been while I’ve been taking a break and any games I get will be reviewed as well. In fact I’m emailing one to my editor right after writing this post. So please look forward to it.

Thanks for putting up with my long hiatus, I’ve really needed the time, and hope you all weren’t too upset with me taking this break for my own mental health.

5 Years and Update

Hey all I’m back with a quick update on how I’m doing on this 5th anniversary.

First off I’d like to say thanks to all those readers who have stuck around since the beginning of this little writing experiment that has gone much longer than I ever thought it would. I had meant this blog to be a challenge to myself to see if I could put a post out about some kind of story or game related thing every day for a year, and then it grew to two years, and then three. That isn’t even counting when I was contacted by GiN to post there as well and when I started game and book reviews for various publishers. When that streak was broken by my computer breaking down I had to take a break to replace it, and I’ve had to get back to writing a couple times since then. I can’t promise that this blog will continue forever, since I’ll probably run out of stories I’ve experienced, in one format or another, to cover eventually, but I’ll keep it going as long as I can.  Now on to that update about myself.

How are you doing?: Well I’m feeling less crappy after this month and a half of taking a break since the family dog has died and I’m not nearly in such a bad place in terms of my mental health. That being said things haven’t been great in other areas of my life so I’m still going to be taking a break until things settle down. To make a long story incredibly short my estranged grandmother and uncle have moved back to Oregon after being gone for nearly a decade and half. Things are a lot more complicated and totally not any of your business, but it will keep me stressed out for the foreseeable future.

When will you go back to writing blog posts?: If this family issue wasn’t occurring I’d have been back to writing by the beginning of February at the earliest, or today at the latest. As of right now, and I’m writing this at the end of January so take that in mind please, I can’t say for certain, but I’m hoping by March 1st at the earliest. I’ll still be doing the weekly book reviews and any game reviews for games I get a review copy of so I’m not taking a complete break from writing.

Here’s hoping the year has been good to you all thus far, and I’ll hopefully be back to blogging soon.

Four Years Already?

Hey all, I’m interrupting your regularly scheduled Serial Saturday to celebrate with a post on my 4th anniversary since I started Windborne’s Story Eatery. It’s been Four Years Already?

So first off I’d love to say I was able to make this my fourth year of daily posts without interruption, but as long time readers will know that isn’t the case sadly. Shortly after my third year anniversary post my old Mac Pro, which I had for 9 years at that point, finally kicked the bucket. I lost everything I had on that computer, from my entire iTunes library with hundreds of eBooks that I had gotten in PDF format or dozens of Audiobooks, to all my reviews I had written for Game Industry News and many, many other things. I wasn’t able to recover any of it, despite trying for weeks and frankly it really sucked, I’m still trying to get all the music I lost, 99.99% wasn’t through iTunes due to being from overseas. For those who don’t know iTunes doesn’t allow for you to re-download Audiobooks through them which is why I stopped buying anything  from iTunes years ago.

Now for the reason why I had to take such a long break afterwards and posted pretty much not at all until mid April was due to the fact I was trying to decide whether I wanted to build my own computer or get a pre-built one.  I finally decided to get a pre-built one from Doghouse Systems. It’s not the fastest thing ever, and I know I could’ve gotten a better machine if I built it myself. However I have no idea really how to do that, and I have a minor disability when it comes to gross motor skills, in addition to having my hands shake constantly. My hand shaking has gotten better over the years and it’s not even a noticeable thing unless you really look closely. However I still can’t hold a camera to take a picture worth a damn without it ending up a blurry mess. If I couldn’t do something as simple as that without messing up I wasn’t comfortable with spending money on buying the parts to build myself a computer. So I’ll apologize for having to take such a long break, and then easing back into the daily posts. I took my editors at GiN’s advice and got back in slowly.

While I’m finally back to full speed I can’t promise that I won’t have to do something similar in the future. I don’t know what the future holds, and if something happens that really affects me I may take a break from writing for a while to get myself back together. I’ll write a short post, though it probably will be only a few sentences long. Hopefully I won’t have to do that before writing my fifth year anniversary post.

Now as for my various columns’ futures, the majority of them won’t be changing at all. The newcomers, Serial Saturday and Movie Monday are both column topics I had in reserve for if something happened or I ran out of material for a column. Serial Saturday will be permanently taking over for Sensate Saturday, unless I, for some odd reason, feel like talking about mental health topics in which case I might make a post under that category. Or that might happen when I run out of stuff to cover for Movie Monday, I don’t know right now.

I’ll be honest, I don’t watch a ton of movies anymore, in fact until I had gone to see The Last Jedi on Christmas Day this past year I hadn’t been in a movie theater in over four years. Mostly it’s due to me being highly sensitive to sound and going to the theater quickly gives me a sensory overload. It’s not a pleasant experience for me, or anyone I’m with as I get pretty irritable. So Movie Monday isn’t a long term column I had planned. It was supposed to be a column I used in only the worst emergencies until I had built up a decent enough stockpile of stuff I had read or done until I could move onto something else. Manga Monday might return, and probably will. However it may be limited to my Quick Review style of posting. Whether that’s a temporary thing or not will depend on whether I can find a reliable alternative to Batoto, which had tons of obscure series that I could use for the column.

Couple last things about Movie Monday, it might not be limited to me covering movies themselves. I might talk about production or directorial decisions and whether I agree or disagree with them. I’ll also likely end up breaking my own rule about covering stuff that is really main stream and new, like a Star Wars movie.  I don’t want to resort to such things, and if I can avoid doing so I will, but I make absolutely no promises when it comes to this column. It wasn’t meant to last me forever and I don’t have nearly the time to start binge watching movies just to write about them.

That’s it for my post, and I hope you, my readers, will continue to read my columns whether it’s on Windborne’s Story Eatery or Game Industry News. Your regularly scheduled Serial Saturday will return next week!

Update on My Situation

Hey all I wanted to write a quick post detailing what’s going with the blog and what is happening in the near future. It’s an Update on My Situation!

Daily Posts When?: November 3rd is the date I’m aiming for right now. I have at the time of writing this post (which is October 6th, 2017) already pre-written everything up to November 2nd. It’ll still be alternating days up to that day. My plan is to start with daily posts on the third.

Why November 3rd?: Because I’ve got a trip planned to visit the other half of my immediate family that I’ll be doing in the middle of October and I’m going to be wiped out from travelling. Hence why I’ve already gotten everything written up to November 2nd.

What about your Reviews?: I’ve got a couple already sent to the Editor at GiN and I’ll be writing a couple more in the next few days as of writing this post. They should be going out at least once a week. I’m hoping to get my daily blog posts running for at least a month before starting to do the weekly book reviews again. Game Reviews will be spotty as I sometimes don’t get games for weeks at a time, and other times I get them every other day.

That’s it for this post. Look forward to your regularly scheduled Video Game Tuesday in two weeks.
