Bookish Wednesday: Endgame by Justin Miller

This week for Bookish Wednesday I’m covering the final entry in John Hulett’s adventures. It’s World Seed Book 04: Endgame by Justin Miller!

Plot Synopsis: John Hulett faces new enemies, the likes of which he couldn’t imagine. Fighting against a hidden trauma and a conspiracy that goes beyond anything he can believe, and discovering the ultimate truths behind the events of the universe, what will be the final outcome for him and his family?

Plot: This is a fairly decent book, although I am not happy with the final ending at all. This entry also features a huge tone shift compared to other entries in the series, and frankly it’s a bit disheartening to see such a funny series take such a different tone. I won’t say anymore than that, and frankly I feel like it was too much already.

Characters: We don’t really get any new characters in this entry, it’s all old faces from prior books. Frankly with the tone shift that this book has compared to prior entries the cast seems less enjoyable to me.

Overall: Not a solid landing for the finish line for this series, it’s not terrible, but it’s not great either. You could probably never read the final book and just enjoy the ending of the third and be happier with the overall story.

Bookish Wednesday: Expansion by Justin Miller

This week for Bookish Wednesday I’m covering the third entry in John Hulett’s adventures. It’s World Seed: Expansion by Justin Miller!

Plot Synopsis: Humanity is facing its greatest crisis yet, and there is only one frontier left for them to explore. Join John as he travels through time and space, though not together, to save all that he holds dear. There may also be a good deal of escaping reality involved as well…

Plot: This entry takes the series in a very different direction, courtesy of the cliffhanger at the end of the second book. I will say I enjoyed this entry quite a bit, although there were more than a few moments that I didn’t particular like I won’t name them as they are very much spoilers.

Characters: We get introduced to a whole bunch of new characters in this entry, and while I can’t say who my favorite is due to spoilers I will say that eccentricity is awesome. There are some old faces as well from the first book we get to interact with, so that is also pretty fun.

Overall: A solid third entry, this sets up the stage for the finale in the next book nicely.

Bookish Wednesday: New Rules by Justin Miller

Hey all I’m back with the second entry in one of my new favorite LitRPG series for this week’s Bookish Wednesday. It’s the World Seed Series Book 02: New Rules by Justin Miller!

Plot Synopsis: Having discovered that upon returning to reality that he’s turned into his in game character and can use his in game magic from Neo Life, John Hulett also known as Falanel, a failure of a Half-Elf,  is dealing with the ever increasing mana that is now permeating Earth. What new adventures, or misadventures in his case, will he land into after he learns monsters are now spawning in the streets on Earth….

Plot: This is a much more serious entry, and while the comedy is still there, it’s also much more intense in terms of drama. That being said I still enjoyed the hell out of the book.

Characters: We get introduced to a couple new characters in this entry, but for the most part it’s still John, or Falanel, along with Celeste and Yin and Yang’s show. I can’t say who my favorite new character is due to spoilers, but the new additions were pretty awesome. Hopefully they show up in the later books as well.

Overall: If you love LitRPGs, or just laughing your head off and getting weird looks while walking down the street (hey don’t look at me like that), you’ll love this second entry in the World Seed Series.

Bookish Wednesday: Game Start by Justin Miller

This week for Bookish Wednesday I’m covering the first book in another LitRPG series. It’s the World Seed Series Book 01: Game Start by Justin Miller!

Plot Synopsis:The year is 2245, and the world has undergone explosive growth in multiple industries. The age of Virtual Reality came long ago, opening up new fields for people to enjoy and seek employment. There were even those that chose to sacrifice their physical bodies, becoming digital existences that lived within internet communities.  But with the age of VR, everyone still dreamed of that next step, the next level of adventure. And after a hundred years, it has finally arrived. The first consoles, known as Seeds, mass distributed among the people, with such realism that they no longer qualified as a Virtual Reality, but as an Artificial Reality. But what happens when things become too real?=

Plot: The plot is pretty awesome, and while it covers tropes and stereotypes that I’ve read before, the snark in the game is just too amusing for me to hate it. I really enjoyed this first book, and can’t wait to read the rest.

Characters: John, or Falanel the failure half-elf, is our main character and while he’s pretty decent for a main character he’s also full of stupid. The game system is probably my favorite side character, if you can call a system a character. It’s really, really snarky and I love it. “That’s not how you fly: Minus 20 Health” is just one of many, many amusing or downright hilarious quips from the system. If I had to choose another side character though, it would be Yin and Yang, although I’ll leave the why for you to find out.

Overall: An excellent LitRPG, a must read for any fan of the genre.

For those who like: MMOs, Gaming, LitRPG, Action, Adventure, Drama, Snark, Amazing Plot, Excellent Cast of Characters.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
