Manga Monday: Katekyo Hitman Reborn! by Akira Amano

This week I’m covering an amazing series. It’s Katekyo Hitman Reborn! by Akira Amano.

Plot Synopsis: The Reborn! story revolves around a boy named Tsunayoshi “Tsuna” Sawada, who is chosen to become the Vongola (Italian clam) Family’s boss due to him being the great-great-great-great grandson of the first Vongola boss, who had moved to Japan from Italy during his own time. He is told by Reborn that he will become the tenth (Italian decimo) Vongola boss. Also, the other candidates for the position of the head of the Vongola Family have died. For these reasons, Tsuna is the only remaining heir. As such, Timoteo a.k.a. “Vongola IX”, the current head of the family, sends Reborn, an infant hitman from Italy, to train Tsuna. Tsuna then unwillingly undergoes training from Reborn. Reborn’s main method of teaching Tsuna is the “Deathperate Bullet” (死ぬ気弾 Shinukidan), which will make the person be “reborn” with a stronger self intent on fulfilling his dying will.

Plot: The plot starts off as a Romantic Comedy, but after the first arc it becomes a battle series and thank god, because the comedy was wearing thin.

Characters: I actually like Tsuna, because he’s absolutely terrible at everything and is called No-Good Tsuna by most of his classmates. He’s pretty likeable, but he is most definitely a coward. The rest of the cast is pretty amazing too.

Art: The art is amazing, and very curvy for a shonen series, which surprised me.

Overall: If you like a good battle series you’ll love this one.

For those who like: Shonen, Action, Great Characters, Amazing plot after the genre switch

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above, or dealing with genre switches.
