This week I’m covering a classic series’ reboot that just started very recently, I’m talking about Sailor Moon Crystal of course!
Plot Synopsis: The series begins with a teenage girl named Usagi Tsukino befriending Luna, a talking cat who reveals Usagi’s identity as Sailor Moon, a magical “pretty soldier in a sailor suit” destined to save Earth from the forces of evil. Luna accompanies Usagi to assemble a team of fellow Sailor Soldiers, find their princess and the “Legendary Silver Crystal.”
Plot: Okay well this is essentially the original Magical Girl series, so expect all the standard tropes to apply because this where they got started.
Characters: I’d have less of an issue watching this series if Usagi wasn’t such a whiny and high pitched girl. I know that it’s part of her character, but her voice actor really stinks in these early episodes. Here is to hoping that it changes after the first 10 or so episodes. Otherwise I’m going to have to drop this series which would be sad.
Art: The art is pretty great, but I hate the CG transformation scene it seems just oddly placed considering how well done everything else is.
Music: The music is pretty good, nothing amazing though.
Overall: If you’ve never watched Sailor Moon you might want to watch this, although be warned Usagi is a pain to listen to.
For those who like: Classic Shoujo series, Magical Girls, Shoujo, Action, Romance, Drama.
Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above, or a main character who causes your ears to bleed after a few minutes.
