Manga Monday: Shaman King by Hiroyuki Takei

This week for Manga Monday I’m covering a series I can’t believe I hadn’t covered already. It’s Shaman King by Hiroyuki Takei!

Plot Synopsis: The plot of Shaman King revolves around Yoh Asakura, a shaman, a medium between the worlds of the living and the dead. Yoh seeks to become the Shaman King, the one who is able to contact the Great Spirit, and will gain the ability to reshape the world in any way they wish, and for this purpose he must to win the Shaman Fight, a battle held once every 500 years between competing shamans.

Plot: The plot is quite good, and it’s easily one of the most classic Jump series out there. As an aside it’s mentioned in the series that previous Shaman Kings included people such as Jesus of Nazareth.  I do really enjoy the plot with all it’s various twists and turns, but I won’t spoil it for you.

Characters: The cast is freaking huge, and even if I personally dislike some characters I understand them which is something not many authors can do. Ren is probably my favorite, because he doesn’t take crap from anyone.

Art: The art in the series is quite good, but that’s not a surprise considering that this series ran in Weekly Shonen Jump.

Overall: If you haven’t read it already, you really ought to do so.

For those who like: Urban Fantasy, Supernatural, Action, Amazing Cast of Characters, Excellent Artwork, Fantastic Plot.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above, but how can you hate all that?
